Paani (Hindi: पानी; English: Water) is an upcoming science fiction - romance film directed by Shekhar Kapoor and coproduced by Danny Boyle.[1] The film \will be featuring Hrithik Roshan and Shriya Saran.

Paani will be a futuristic film about water wars between rich and poor, which includes a love story. Its music will be composed by Kapoor's usual associate A. R. Rahman

Thirty-five years into the future in a city with a population of 20 million people, a war has begun in the quest for water known as the Water Wars between those that have water and those that do not. At a time when water has become a weapon of social and economic control.

from the diary of director Kapur:

Today -- it is 2005 when he writes this  -- another dream was rekindled. Paani. A film that has lived in my consciousness for almost 5 years, when I watched 50 women and children standing in the hot sun in Mumbai. Each carrying a bucket waiting for a tap to start dripping with water.

Paani means Water in Hindi.

I had just come down from a friends place in Pali Hill, one of the more expensive residential areas in Mumbai. My friend had me waiting for half an hour while he showered. He lived on the 30th floor, and the slum where there was no water was just below his apartment building.

This inequity in the most basic resource neccessary for human survival set me thinking and a story developed.

NOTE -- Worlds most renowned water activist Maude Barlow gives a fiery and factual speech at the Earth Summit in response to the G 20 Summit meeting at Toronto. Maude is one of the biggest supporters and adviser to our film Paani. It is a speech worth listening to as it drives home many truths,
